THE PLAGUE OF ‘AMWAAS IN AL-SHAAM AND THE DEATH OF SEVERAL MUSLIMS WHO FELL VICTIM TO IT

Al-Shaam was hit with a deadly plague in the same year, which claimed several people. That year was named “The Year of ‘Amwaas” because of the high death toll, which was estimated at 25,000 people. Amongst those who died was Aboo Ubaydah ibn al-Jarraah, Yazeed ibn Abee Sufyaan, Shurahbeel ibn Hasanah, and many, many others. As for the name “‘Amwaas”, it is the name of a place in which the plague had spread, which is near the city of Ramlah in Palestine.
